![]() ![]() WGC 2010 winnersGlider TrackingKedves Látogató!For Hungarian visitors.

Frouwke Kuijpers published a letter for everyone, please let me share it!
"From now on there will be a safety box in which pilots can put in their remarks about unsafe flying or circumstances.
This box will be emptied everyday by the stewards.
If it is possible, please mention date, time and call sign so the stewards can look into the logfiles to see what happened.
This can be done anonymously, although it helps if we know both call signs, so there can be a comparison of the logfiles.
When necessary one of the stewards will contact the pilot(s) concerned and talk to them, for example if a pilot is mentioned often.
But the safety box is not the only solution.
It is also a good thing to also speak to the pilot concerned and talk to him, or, if you had an unsafe situation by yourself, go the pilot with whom you had a bad situation. Talk with each other about these incidents, it creates an atmosphere in which we can learn from each other.
It is also possible to put remarks about towing in this safety box, such as a wrong release point or height, etc.. "
The donation for the truck-driver is still on. If you have not given but you want, please look for an ostiv member or the office, they are waiting for you!

All the gliders are in the air, line will open at 1350LT with Task C.
Now all the competitors are in the air! Have a nice flight!
With Mr. Steven Crabb the last 18 meter class glider has left the airport at 1303LT, so the line for them will be open at 1323LT with task B!
The last open class category glider is being towed right now, the start line will open at 1315LT!
18 meter class still have 4 gliders left.
Woow, a hot day again! The sniffler is on his way, he reports 1.5-2 meters per second of climbing at 500 meter. A dozen of culumus clouds already can be seen. An announcement has just gone, the launch for open and 18 meter class will start at 1230LT, in 10 minutes. by this time our thermal-seeker climbed to 700 meter and still ascending! Good! :)
For 15 meter class there is a new task sheet! Task C is available at the info desk for the teamcaptains!
For 18 meter and open class task B is valid!
See you on the grid!
Ohayo gozaimasu!
This morning we have woken on a bright sunshine! As every day, I talked to the meteor office. As for them, now the sky looks very nice, but it will change. For the afternoon some thunderstorms are expected. Humidity is still high and a group of clouds are coming from southwest.
However, the grid is on the field and waiting for the gliders to come!
Grid will close at 1200LT with runway 34 in use.
teamcaptain briefing held from 0900LT and pilots briefing from 0930LT.
Expected time for first launch is 1215LT!
We can see the Shark’s Jet live at 1000LT, after th briefing. The demonstration will show us the advantages of this turbojet engine, which can be used to return back home in case of bad meteor conditions. This variant is called 304SJ. You can read about this great construction on www.hph.cz or you can examine closely it on the grid :-)
finally, the day is scorable for all classes! Lets look on the results!
The airport went crazy! Dozens of trailers are leaving the airport in order to bring back the outlanded gliders. Some sailplanes have arrived on foot (on wings). By the way, this is how it goes on a competition, so do on a world championship! Come on guys, the paprika beef is getting finished, we need a hungry army, to have it eaten! :)
I've just got a new list about the glider for whom the new calibration procedure allowed:
15 meter class:
29, AMI, GE
18 meter class:
29E, 2J, 7D, A8, AB, AS, B, BO, CX, HE, HI, IR, LZ, MO, PX, RI, S, WK, KM, MPI

The evening will have some modification. The organiser team has decided, that the budget of the evening will have been offered into a donation to the truckdriver's family. However with this letter they would like to invite you for a dinner instead of the evening. We expect everybody to come! :)
This evening will be a Hungarian evening in the main hangar. A lots of hungarian foods and drinks, good atmosphere, all the stuff you need to enjoy! Please come!
Finally, all the gliders are in the air! The lines open as follows: 1309LT for open, 1329LT for 18m and 1356LT for 15m class. We will be waiting for you guys!!

All gliders in open class are in the air, the line will be open from 1309LT!
So the launch for the open class is at 1230LT with task A! For 18 meter class at 1245LT with task B. About 15 meter class there is still no decision, they have to wait!
The German team and the President of Ostiv published a letter to every team, with the aim, to start a donation for the driver of the truck involved in the accident yesterday. Please let me share this letter with you!
"Everybody will have heard about the accident that happened Thursday evening.
As it was announced at the briefing by Dr. Loek M.M. Boermans, the President of the Ostiv, collection of donations will be organized.
The donations represents the convergence and the empathy of the international glider community with the truck driver and his family.
So we kindly request to each team to organize the collection with his members. Team captains would be very kind to bring the collection (cash is easier; euro or forint) to briefing tomorrow morning or to the Ostiv organization (Mr Boermans or his secretery).
We trust you will all give very generously and we thank all of your understanding and simpathy."

I am always thinking about the pilots. Where are they? Are they up high, or really low? Who is in the situation, from he can win the day? Who is low enough, to fight for his survival and the chance to continue his task?
But with Yellowbrick team, these questions can be answered. We have glider tracking on the main side To the left from this article, there is a bar under daily winners, called Glider Tracking. with this system everybody can track them through internet, with only 15 minutes delay!
Keep watching!
Now all the gliders are in the air. The start lines for all classes are now open! Lets fly pilots!
Ok, 15 meter class is in the air, so do the open! On the other hand, the 18 meter class is on the ground, their start has been postponed by 10 minutes! The start line for the open class opens at 1310LT and for the 15 meter class at 1320LT!
Allright, the engines are running, from the silence it has changed to roarrs from the machines. We just saw how to takeoff with a turbo cmelak on a very, very short way!:) And now the first glider got airborne! Looks like the organisers do really mean 1230lt :)
Some modification again, 1230LT is the new time to start! On the radio: "First launch at 1230! And now we do really, really mean it!" :)
The start time has been modified to 1215LT! The organiser announced on the radio: "First launch at 1215! And now we mean it!" :) Lets see!
So he took off, now he is climbing north-west of the airport. He told us, the weather getting good, he is able to climb. The launch has not been postponed! First launch is to be executed at 1200LT!
God morgon! (it is in swedish:) )
I've been to the meteorology office and I saw smiling faces. Finally the covering clouds will disappear, the sky is getting cleaner and cleaner. According to them initially to the east, later all directions will be flyable!
Very good! The tasks are ready, there are racing tasks for all classes for Task A, and Assigned Area tasks for B. Maybe the curse has been demolished? We hope so!
So the grid will be open between 0815LT and 1115LT
runway in use: 16
Estimated first launch 1130LT
TC briefing: 0900LT
briefing: 0930LT
Attention!
Some change has occured in start line opening! All start line will open 20 minutes after the last glider's been launched!

So the competiton day for today has been cancelled. The day yesterday was scorable for open class! We are waiting for the official result. Preliminary results are available. There were 4 outlandings, all of them are back!
For today, I advise to visit one of our thermal baths. For instance Anna bath or Aquapolis, both of them are located at Szeged. However, there are more in the vicinity, like Borbála bath at Algyő or Erzsébet bath at Mórahalom. It is up to you what you do, just enjoy!
This morning I met Brian Spreckley in the bar. We had a conversation about today's weather. He told me, that all the word gliding championships suffer from this curse. We have rainy weather again.:(
By the way, the grid is under construction, will be open from 1000LT to 1230LT.
Runway in use: 34
Teamcaptain briefing: 0900LT
Briefing for pilots: 0930LT
So the launch started at 1300LT, the open and the 18m classes took off. The line for the open category is now open, the 18m and 15m class have been cancelled.
At 1300LT the first tows will be executed for 18m and open class, and task B is to be flown!

4th Briefing (briefing4th.pdf)Is avaliable to download.

The meteor forecast was sceptic about today, looking to east, west or south, we can see dozens of cumulus clouds. However, they have low level base and some mid and higher level clouds over them. None of the classes has been cancelled, everybody is preparing for the starting of towing at 1300LT! The yellowbrick team set up the tracking system, some of the aircrafts will be tracked online. In the bar, we have 3 big screens to monitor the flight! Lets watch them flying!
New video and photo gallery is on view under the 'Gallery' link. :) Enjoy it!
Means good morning! :) Today offers us a possibility to fly!
The grid opens at 0815LT and closes at 1230LT!
Runway in use 34.
Briefing for team captains at 0900LT.
Briefing for pilots at 0930LT.
See you there!
You can find the tracking under the following links:
15 meter Class:
http://gliding.adventuretracking.com/GliderCompetition/WGC2010-15m
18 meter Class:
http://gliding.adventuretracking.com/GliderCompetition/WGC2010-18m
Open Class:
http://gliding.adventuretracking.com/GliderCompetition/WGC2010-open
During the competition these links can be reached on the left side of the page, under the daily winners box!
All the pilots and team captains, please pay attention! No matter, if it is a practice flight or a competiting one, all the pilots who takeoff from the airport should have their IGC files uploaded or the loggers delivered into the info office! So the one, who has had takeoffs today, please comply with this rule!
Thank you!
There are some photos, and the video about the opening ceremony. :) Enjoy it!
So finally, all the 3 classes have been cancelled due to weather conditions. The gradient is good, but there is not enough radiation, too much shades by the mid-level clouds. :( Lets keep waiting for tomorrow!
There will be no launch before 1330LT.
Andras

So the official briefing is over, the day has not been cancelled! We have a racing task for the 15 meter class, and speed task for 18m and open class. The grid is now open, they are waiting for the gliders to be pulled out.
grid will close at 1230LT and expected tow launch at 1300LT. There is a special launching order, 15m and open will start initally, then the 18m category.
The cloud base seems to be very low around 800 meters. Might be tricky, Lets see!!
Briefing - Day 2 (briefing3rd.pdf)Guten Morgen allerseits( good morning)!
Yesterday was a terrible weather, a lot of rain has fallen. But it is in past time, so lets think forward!
The grid will be ready in 30 minutes! The reason why it has been postponed from 0800LT is the wet grass. We have RWY 34 in use.
See you there!

There is a new airspace file available in the download section. This file contains some alterations that may provide enhanced compatibility with some software and flight instrumentation. This is for the convenience of the pilots and not intended to replace the official airspace file.

...today. Team captains briefing at 0930LT And Briefing is at 1000LT
have a nice day
Hello everybody!
Now the rains have finally gone, the sun is shining again! There were showers for all day with various intensity. However, the atmosphere is good, everybody feel like chatting, you can see hundreds of smiling faces, talking to another person.
The opening ceremony starts at 1900LT, so we have only 2 and a half hour before the championship starts!
While we are waiting for the time to pass over, I would like to share one of my favorites poem about aviation to have you entertained :) Here you are, enjoy!
Impressions of a Pilot
Gary Claude Stoker
Flight is freedom in its purest form,
To dance with the clouds which follow a storm;
To roll and glide, to wheel and spin,
To feel the joy that swells within.
To leave the earth with its troubles and fly,
And know the warmth of a clear spring sky;
Then back to earth at the end of the day,
Released from the tensions which melted away.
Should my end come while I am in flight,
Whether brightest day or darkest night;
Spare me no pity and shrug off the pain,
Secure in the knowledge that I'd do it again.
For each of us is created to die,
And within me I know,
I was born to fly.
Good morning everybody! Today is a day without any flight. However, the weather is like it was predicted yesterday. The weak cold front has arrived, so it is 23°C here with a soft breeze. So nice! However, a not extended, but very strong precipitation zone is approaching from south-southwest, so in one or one and a half hour it will be here with showers. Everybody, please be advised and prepared for it!
Now the airport looks more calm than it was in the last few days. No running, not even a moving glider. By the way, the local skydiving association has woken up, they are to jump some today. Good to see, that a sort of aviation is always present on the field.
The organiser team should not rest. There is a hard work on the field and in the offices as well. Everybody is preparing for the first official competition day. I cannot even wait until that! :)
On the other hand, a special vehicle has arrived to the airport! If you are lucky enough you can even see an orange Volkswagen Transporter from 1964, in fully refurbished, mint condition! Looks very good!
To be advised again, here is the schedule for today:
0930LT Team Captain's Briefing
1000LT First Official Briefing (compulsory for ALL Pilots and TCs)
1750LT Departure of Buses to the Opening Ceremony at Szeged
2000LT Departure of Buses from Main Square at Szeged back to Airport
Tomorrow, on 24th of July, we will have a non-flying day, with the following schedule:
0930LT Team Captain's Briefing
1000LT First Official Briefing (compulsory for ALL Pilots and TCs)
1750LT Departure of Buses to the Opening Ceremony at Szeged
2000LT Departure of Buses from Main Square at Szeged back to Airport
Please try to conform!
Thank you!
The following problems are so serious, they may mean the denying of the right of flight for some pilots! Please make sure they will have been solved as soon as possible!
The gliders with the following contest numbers DO NOT HAVE CONTEST NUMBERS ON THEIR WINGS:
The glider with the following contest number has to change present CONTEST NUMBER:
So it looks like today's flying is getting over, no more arriving gliders for an hour. However we have seen a lot of astonishing arrival. You know, what I am talking about... A shiny glider trailing water vapor with the sunset in the background and making that whispering sound while passing us with at least 200 km per hour. No even more beautiful thing! We have a webcam on the tower looking on the airport. Please watch, so you should see the arriving sailplanes!
With the gliders the team of Yellowbrick has arrived! This is the team which will provide online tracking service for the whole competition. they are going to start tomorrow, so for the first competition day the service will be alive.
Some outlandings have occured, however unfortunately, there is no soaring without it!
Pilots and crews! In some minutes, new post to be published about important informations and tomorrow's schedule! Keep monitoring!
It is 1700LT here and the field is almost fully arrived. György Gulyás, the 15m champion is already on the ground, he is setting up a tent, so I decided to ask him, how about it was today.
"As it was a day of practice, I tried to minimalize my risktaking. I started early to make sure the weather would be fine. However, If I would start a little later, the weather could be better. A group of pilots had been built up, so we were flying together. I enjoyed my flight, did not even felt the racing situation. The weather forecast was very punctual. If I have to say a number from 1 to 8, how good the weather was, I will say 5."
Iain Baker, from South African team provided me a collection of expressions from 33 different languages, to say how good the weather is on a scale from 1 to 8.
To express our thanks again to the German and the Austrian team, in their language today's weather was schön (means beautiful).
New and corrected airspace file for Winpilot is now available from the website!
Special thanks to Paul Crabb, Ireland!
Such a sight! A dozen of towplanes lifting up more than one hundred gliders. We are trying to survive in the shade with cool drinks while thinking on the others working out there in the temperature of 33°C. So hot day today!
Now all the gliders are in the air, the lines are to be opened in few minutes. Everything is ready for a good flight! Lets fly boys!
The briefing is just over for the third practice day. Everybody stood up immediately when the last slide went over and leaved to prepare the gliders and themselves for the last official practice day!
the meteorological conditions have changed. The air over Hungary has dried a little and got a bit more stable. So this day there will be blue thermals and convective clouds as well. A weak cold front with a strong instability zone is approaching us, will be here tomorrow early morning. So weather for tomorrow may not be fliable.
Tasks for the classes are the same type, speedtasks. With 3 hours for 15 and 18 meter and 3,5 hours for open class and with distances from 242 to 557 km. We are looking for a great day!
The launch will start at 1145LT (0945Z), so fans, lets jitter for your favorite pilot!
Today is the day for the third official training day! Everybody is prepared, due to the kindness of the German and Austrian team, as they have provided a wonderful national evening for the championship last night! In the name of everybody,WE DO THANK YOU German and Austrian team!
Yesterday was a fliable day, however some thunderstorms have been built up in the third sectors, so it was tricky to fly the task. However it was succesful so we have the winners. Congratulations to RUCH Christophe (15m), DARROZE Olivier (18m) from France and for BOROVYK Dmytry (open) from Ukraine!
For this day according to preliminary meteorological forecasts the weather will be good. With this wind we will use grid 16! It is already settled down waiting for the competitors.
Last but not least news will be frequently published! Stay Tuned! :)
